PCE Client Is Unable To Connect To The PCE Server
Symptom
You get the error “Setup is unable to connect PCE Server” during the installation of PCE Client
as shown in the following graphic;
Reason 1
If you have installed PCE Server on Windows XP Professional (SP2) then the Windows Firewall
may cause this problem.
Solution
1. Go to thePCE Server and open the Control Panel.
2. Double click on Windows Firewall.
3. Check the ON and OFF option;
a. If the Off option is selected then you are unable to connect with the PCE Server
due to some other reason. In that case make sure that the computer where the PCE Server
is installed is accessible from the one where you are trying to install the PCE Client.
Please also see Reasons 2-3 below.
b. If the On option is selected then continue;
4. Be sure that the option Don’t allow exceptions is NOT checked.
5. Click on the Exceptions tab of the Windows Firewall dialog box.
6. Using the Add Program…button add the following three programs in the Programs
and Services list;
ASPNET_WP windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_wp.exe
InetInfo windows\system32\inetsrv\inetinfo.exe
PCE Server (Updater.exe) inetpub\wwwroot\pcent\pceserver\updater.exe
7. Now click the Advanced tab. Ensure that the option Local Area Network is checked.
8. Now, click the Settings… button.
9. In the list of Services check the Web Server (HTTP) option.
10. Click OK to close the Advanced Settings dialog box. Click OK to close the Windows
Firewall dialog box.
11. This should solve the Firewall problem. Please go to the computer where you
were trying to install PCE Client and run the setup of PCE Client again.
Reason 2
If you have changed the IP Address or Name of the PCE Server computer then you
may get this error. Also check your DNS Settings and Proxy settings.
Solution
1. Remember that PCE is trying to communicate via HTTP. Test access to the PCE
Console from the client computer. If the PCE Console is unaccessible then this may be
due to Proxy or ISA Server security.
2. It may be that the client computer is unable to successfully resolve the PCE
Server IP Address. To Resolve go to the PCE Server and access the shared PCClient folder.
Inside this folder is a file named SERVERURL.INI Edit the file and replace the PCE Server
IP Address with the PCE Server machine name (keep the http://). Now try installing PCE
Client.
Reason 3
If you have installed the PCE Server on Windows XP or Windows 2000 Professional
and you already have PCE Client running on a few computers then you may get this error
due to the limit that Microsoft has imposed on IIS. This limit is set on the number of
concurrent connections.
Solution
1. From the Start, Run command open IIS Manager by typing inetmgr then clicking
OK..
2. Expand the root node of the tree in the left pane of the IIS window.
3. Right click on “Default Web Site” and select “Properties”.
4. In the Web Site tab, uncheck the “HTTP Keep-Alives Enabled” option.
5. Click the Apply and OK buttons respectively.
